A Bozeman Chiropractor's First Impressions of the AlterG Treadmill

My Experience on the AlterG Antigravity Treadmill

If you think the NASA Patterned, differential air pressure unweighting technology of the Anti Gravity Treadmill was designed only for the Super Athlete, think again. It’s applications were designed to serve us all.

From simple Aerobic exercise and weight loss to post surgical rehabilitation and stroke recovery, the AlterG antigravity treadmill provides a safe, comfortable, no fall environment while you work to meet your specific goals and needs.

The AlterG has some amazing features that include, both forward, up to 15mph and backward, up to 5mph, motion platform training as well as bilateral weight distribution monitoring and even live video gait monitoring.  And lets not forget its most impressive feature, the antigravity unweighting of up to 80% of your body weight. That means a two hundred pound individual can experience what it would be like to walk, run or jump as if they weighted only forty pounds. A reduction of that magnitude equates to the gravitational pull on the moon.

My first session on the AlterG was like nothing I had ever experienced

After zipping into the air chamber, calibration began. The unweighting effects of the unit, immediately began to lift me off the ground. Once calibrated, my feet were back on the platform and my self -programmable exercise session began.

I started slowly just to get a feel for the machine and was pleased with its ease of use and its smooth motion. Then, I wanted to see what it would feel like to exercise at my ideal body weight, a full twenty pounds lighter.  The effects were noticeable different. I found that my cardio ability was greatly enhanced at this level. But I couldn’t stop there. What would mobility be like at an 80% reduction in body weight?  It’s like walking on the moon. You feel as though you are on a trampoline and any efforts you make are magnified. Walking, running and jumping are such an ease.

Immediately, I began to think of how the AlterG could serve the needs of my patients:

-Post surgical rehabilitation of people with knee and hip replacements.

-Weight loss and aerobic exercise with out joint irritation.

-Soft tissue and joint mobilization

-Stroke victims that are learning to stand and walk again.

-Closed Kinetic Chain exercises, that include squats, both double and single leg, lunges, heel and toe raises, balance pad and proprioception.

-Fractured lower limb loading exercises.

-Achilles tendon tears or ACL tears.

-Osteoarthritis

The opportunities for these patients are limitless.

If you suffer with any of these ailments you owe it to yourself to give the AlterG antigravity treadmill a try. It will give you a training, rehabilitation, or exercising experience that is out of this world.
